Only during peak season — and we'll always let you know if your requested date falls within it. Our busiest times run from October to July (especially in the school holidays) and during special promotional events. To help us avoid no-shows and cancellations, we occasionally introduce a small appointment charge during these peak periods.

In over seventeen years in the prom business, we've learned that our customers love a quality, unhurried appointment in one boutique — with beautiful gowns, beautifully displayed, and in excellent condition. That's what a peak-season fee helps us protect. We'll always confirm at the time of your enquiry, or while booking, whether your appointment falls within peak season.

If a fee applies: it's £25 for your first hour-long private appointment, covering a private style consultation that's valuable even if you don't purchase on the day. Find your dream dress with us, and that £25 is fully redeemable against any purchase made either on the day, or at a follow-up appointment. Payment is required at the point of booking.

Our prom dresses start from £399, with most falling between £500–£599. A few very special styles — the ones we simply couldn't resist — go up to £799, so there really is something for every girl and every budget.

Remember, these are designer prom dresses, not available on the high street. As authorised stockists of Morilee, Tania Olsen, Ellie Wilde Prom and award-winning label Amarra Prom, CityProm is the only boutique stocking these collections in Cardiff.

First things first, we cannot wait to meet you! Your appointment will be a relaxed, unhurried affair. We've been styling prom girls since 2008, so we've seen every shape, size, and personality walk through our doors, and we love it every time.

Privacy comes first; you'll have the entire boutique to yourselves. We'll start with a chat about your ideas and inspiration, so bring any screenshots you've saved; they help us pull similar looks from the rails as a starting point. No ideas yet? That's just as wonderful — we'll narrow things down by silhouette, body shape, hair, and skin tone, and pull the gowns you're naturally drawn to as you browse. We'll talk through price points as we go — most dresses sit around the £550 mark, with a few very special ones nearer £799, and our starting price is £399.

We suggest bringing two or three guests — the true decision-makers. Whoever helps you choose between your final two favourites: sometimes that's a best friend or sister, more often it's mum, nan or dad. We all have that one person whose opinion really counts — bring them along.

We keep a genuinely varied selection in store, with certain styles chosen in certain sizes because they suit particular body shapes best. For example, we wouldn't stock a smooth, clingy satin-jersey dress with a thigh split and cut-outs in a size 22 — but we would stock a fitted, boned-bodice style in stretch lace appliqué that beautifully enhances curves in that same size.

There's a dress for every body shape — trust us — though it may not be the one you first imagined. Stay open-minded, compare, and eliminate as you go; after all, you can only wear one on the night. The final decision is always the easiest part: it's the one you feel amazing in, the one you don't want to take off. You'll know.

To protect our exclusivity, we generally offer just one dress per size and colour (unless it's within our ordering period, October–February). Stock also becomes more limited from February through to July — so while our rails are full, your dream dress may not be in your exact size. Staying open to trying different sizes on the day can open up some wonderfully unexpected options.

There's no limit; some girls prefer a small, focused selection; others like to work through the no's quickly before lingering over their final two. Every customer is different, so we adapt to you.

As a small, privately owned boutique, we do kindly ask that appointments aren't booked purely to "try on dresses" without a genuine intention to buy within your budget; there's little joy in falling for a dress that's out of reach. A quick family chat about price beforehand goes a long way.

A few practical tips: please avoid fake tan and heavy makeup, as both can transfer onto the fabric. Simple, plain underwear works best under fitted styles, and if you're planning on shapewear, buy it before your appointment. A good strapless or backless bra can help too, though many of our dresses have built-in bust support, so it's not always necessary.

Most prom dresses need slight alterations — typically to the bust line, straps, or hem. Once you've made your decision, we're happy to advise on what adjustments may be needed and can point you toward local seamstresses. We don't offer an in-house alteration service.

Absolutely, and why not? Unlike bridal boutiques, every dress in our store is available to buy, not just a sample. That means you can take your dress home the very same day, leaving plenty of time to match accessories and book alterations well ahead of prom night. We don't offer payment plans or hold dresses on deposit; if you love it, don't risk losing it.

If your dream dress isn't in store, we may be able to source it in time for your prom date — we'll talk through all your options at your appointment.

Special orders — whether direct from the manufacturer or their USA warehouse, to secure a specific style, size, or colour — require a £300 deposit or 50% (whichever is greater) in advance. Rush-cut supplement charges may apply for tight timeframes.

We'll always go the extra mile to track down your favourite style; our long-standing supplier relationships often help us secure hard-to-find pieces even on a tight schedule.

We accept all major debit and credit cards, including American Express, plus cash (sorry, no personal cheques). All sales are final and form a contract between you and CityProm.

From October to January — our main ordering period — a deposit of £300 or 50% (whichever is greater) is required if we're ordering a dress for you.

Dresses in store are sold of the rail, paid for in full, and taken away the same day; we don't offer deposits to hold dresses or payment plans. Full terms and conditions are available here.

We keep a record of every dress sold to every school prom, and we never sell the same style to the same school twice — our very own School Prom Record Book.

As our dresses aren't sold on the high street, the chances of seeing your dress twice are much lower, though we can't promise it's impossible. If families travel to other boutiques stocking the same collections, there's a slightly higher chance of a match — so we always say: shop local, and tell your friends, so your whole school group stays with us.

We don't offer dress hire — most of our gowns need slight alterations (usually to length or straps) to fit perfectly, which isn't possible with a hired dress. If budget is a key factor, take a look at our sale rail instead, with prices from £99 — genuinely great buys.

Yes — our annual sale takes place the last Saturday in September. Throughout the year, we also keep a limited number of reduced items on our in-store sale rail, with many priced from £99 up to around £299.

Unfortunately, we're not able to buy back or resell pre-worn dresses. Our focus is on bringing exciting new stock into the boutique every season. Many of our past customers do sell their CityProm gowns themselves — on Instagram, Vinted and eBay — typically achieving around 50% of the purchase price. A tip if you do: mention it was purchased from CityProm, and include the designer brand, style number, and original price — it helps confirm authenticity and quality to your buyer.
